Resilience Workshops and Seminars

The number of sick leaves and work disabilities due to mental health problems like 'burnout' or depression continues to grow. Depressive disorders are, for example, one of the most common mental disorders in Germany. More than 4 million Germans suffer from depression.

The rapid changes in technology and society require new skills and abilities of managers and employees. A high level of competence in regulating emotions and modulating stress is needed to stay physically and mentally healthy. These skills also build peak performance and productivity.

Research has shown that (neuro-)biological, psychological and social resources represent protective factors which help to prevent stress-related disorders by facilitating adaption to stressors (see figure). Some of these so called resilience factors like optimism, self-efficacy, emotional regulation, mindfulness, network orientation, and problem-solving skills can be trained and strengthened. This can reduce the likelihood of maladaptive coping, and also of negative adjustments like work disability, the development of ‘burnout’, or even a mental disorder (see figure). Therefore, the training of resilience factors can contribute to improve the quality of work and life.

Health and resilience promotion model

Based on insights of DRZ‘s cognitive neuroscience research, we aim to develop and evaluate innovative prevention measures and resilience training methods (especially regarding the neurobiological resilience factors). In the future, based on these empirically-supported prevention measures, the Resilience Health Care Center plans to offer health promotion and health education programs.

Currently, we can provide information about how to stimulate resilience mechanism in the daily life, and offer the following lectures and workshops in German:
Lectures

  • Stimulating resilience – preventing burnout (60 min)
  • Tired, exhausted, feeling empty – Am I sick? (60 min)

Workshops

  • Effective communication skills (90 min)
  • Healthy and resilient management (180 min)
